December 22, 2007 is the start of the roadshow of the Boys Love film Takumi-kun Series ~Soshite Harukaze ni Sasayaite~. The movie was adapted from the manga series Takumi-kun Series by Ooya Kazumi who is also known for her work Oasis Project. Takumi-kun Series is only one of the many boys love films released recently.

As with the other BL films (it’s starting to be a trend, believe me), the film stars actors who have performed or are connected to musicals, specifically The Musical Prince of Tennis. The cast list is as follows:

Hayama Takumi - Yanagishita Tomo (Kaidoh in Tenimyu)
Saki Giichi - Katou Keisuke (PureBOYS member)
Aikake Shouzo - Takiguchi Yukihiro (Oishi in Tenimyu)
Takabayashi Izumi - Saitou Yasuka (Rin in Tenimyu)
Nozaki Daisuke - Makita Tetsuya (D-BOYS)
Yoshizawa Michio - Hatano Wataru
Inoue Sachi - Aiba Hiroki (Fuji in Tenimyu)
Katakura Toshihisa - Sakaguchi Ryou

The story revolves around Hayama Takumi (Yanagishita). He is a very aloof guy who doesn’t like anyone just touching him. Despite his closed personality, though, he was eventually won by a classmate named Saki Giichi (Katou). Gii has the usual ‘cool-guy’ aura and is well-known in school.

Gii forced Takumi to stay by his side without invading Takumi’s space and respecting his decision to not be physically close to anyone. Still, Takumi’s complex did not stop Gii from confessing his love and trying to make Takumi say the same words he had conveyed. With the help of their main allies, Akaike Shouzo (Takiguchi) who is Gii’s best friend and Inoue Sachi (Aiba) who is a violinist Takumi deeply idolized, they faced the consequences of their relationship and aimed to move on with life — together.

The movie tells their story of exploring each other’s personalities, opening up to each other and facing the challenges that comes their way. They have friends who helped them with their troubles and rivals who knew nothing but to cause more problems. A typical yaoi story, you say? There is so much more than meets the eye! This story is quite an old-school romance story but mysteries of Takumi’s past, Gii’s relationships with the people around them, and pairings that sprout from nowhere give Takumi-kun Series a different color than most movies/manga series.

The movie is said to span the first 2 volumes of the manga. People are excited about the film since it is one of the few BL films with a light-hearted scenes and humor as compared to the dark and angsty scenes most BL films portray.

An angsty guy. An overly cheerful guy. A dedicated ally. A talented inspiration. A violin. A challenge. Do you think the movie will do justice to the wonderful series, even though it will only encompass two volumes? Do you think such a trend of BL movies and making movies out of manga ought to continue?

The trailer came out sometime last November 2007. You can watch the trailer here.
