Their make-up is bright and striking, their clothes are adorned with simple accessories or more extravagant things. Most of them are wearing wigs and some of them are even holding plastic weapons in their hands: Cosplayers can be seen in most parts of the bigger cities all over the world. Japan was (of course) the first country which started the real cosplay trend; now cosplayers are gathering in places like Harajuku or Akihabara and they are even presenting their own events since a few years. The Comiket, the world’s largest comic convention, is also the most famous gathering point for cosplayers.

Cosplay (kosupure) refers to the English words “costume play”. People are dressing up as their most popular characters out of any manga, anime or video games, television shows, movies or even their music idols. The trend became so popular that cosplay cafés were opened in which the waitresses are dressing up as anime characters, mostly maid or cat costumes.

Now, would you ever slip into a costume of your most favourite character to present yourself in front of other people? Or maybe you don’t like the whole cosplay trend? Or are you one of the people who only like looking at cosplayer?

I prefer the above photo to any I’ve seen of people dressed as Imperial Stormtroopers, Wookies, Klingons, etc.
Once a year, on Halloween is enough ‘cosplay’ for me. =)

Haha, Akihabara. Good times. We went on Sunday and they had the main street closed off. There were mad people in cosplay along some random dudes playing with remote control cars and other stuff. I didn’t see any cosplayers in Harajuku (we hit it on like 3 different days), it was just people dressed up really crazy. Mostly J-Rock style, but there were some random urban guys sprinkled in the mass of people — usually BAPE stuff or American style (NY/LA fitted with Nikes). lol there was some random rock-a-billy dudes too.
