Before I saw this anime, I had read the manga first. I liked watching it very much. I’ve noticed that Japanese creators love to make anime involving ghosts and haunting. In fact, there are more than four titles to make up for that. Either way, this anime is one of the very few that follows the manga accordingly. The graphics are also impressive. The anime is very enjoyable and not that scary, because there are a lot of humorous scenes, although in later episodes there are times when you get a little jumpy but that is all there is to it.

The story, as the title indicates, is all about ghost hunting. The main protagonists are two and they are surrounded by five, later six, supporting characters. Taniyama Mai is a 16 year old girl who loves to talk about ghost stories with her friends. One day she crosses paths with a boy named Shibuya Kazuya. He asks her to assist him in his work until his own assistant, who got hurt trying to save her, could take his place again. During the case, all other characters that form the later research team come along and introduce themselves as individual researchers. After solving the first case with Mai’s assistance Shibuya offers her a part-time job at his research center. From that moment on they got to solve 5 or 6 six different cases along with their new friends.

The anime was broadcasted by TV Aichi, TV Oosaka and TV Tokyo during the years 2006 - 2007 and runs at a full 25 episode series. J.C. Staff produces this franchise — they are a very well known studio who have produced a fairly good list of anime series, like Excel Saga, Ai Yori Aoshi, Karin, Honey & Clover, LOVELESS, Nodame Cantabile and much more. The character design was by Iwataki Satoshi and the original manga belongs to Inada Shiho.

Before I read and saw Ghost Hunt I was never a fan of horror/mystery anime. To be honest I still don’t like all of those horror anime, but there are some that are very good and should be watched. For me Ghost Hunt was the catalyst to appreciate a different genre of anime series.
