The Harajuku district comprises of a variety of teenagers whose styles of fashion are anything but boring. Every weekend the vicinity would be filled with girls and boys clad in frilly, colorful layered outfits that may sometimes be an eyesore but are cute and creative most of the time. Yet out of all the fashion trends that can be seen in this microcosm of Japan, one of them stands out, mostly because of the lack of any other color but black. This trend is called the Gothic Lolita look.
The Gothic Lolita fashion is most popular among women, and females who like to abide by this sense of style would often go out in dark layered outfits that look like they were just imported from the era of the 1920’s in the West. This look is often described as one that would often be seen in old vampire movies for corsets and long frilly dresses are the staples to a Lolita closet. Headdresses are also essential to the Lolita wardrobe, and the only thing needed to complete the whole look is a pair of black platform shoes.

Gothic Lolita though is somewhat only a subcategory of the whole Lolita fashion. There are other subcategories of the Lolita which do not comprise of dark outfits and instead are composed of pink ribbons and strawberry-printed dresses that would make one look like a cake. Some subcategories also go overboard and even make Lolita outfits look too gory or too erotic (due to the popularity of contemporary bondage). Yet despite the many subcategories of this kind of fashion, it is undoubtedly creative and suffice to say many have been smitten by it despite its oddity to the rest of society.

Now what do you think, dear reader? Is the Gothic Lolita fashion hot or not?

Well I think that some Gothik Lolita look really, really scary in their dark clothes but most of them can be really cute!
I saw a Gothik Lolita on my way to Harajuku and she was absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn’t wear those clothes myself but I’ll vote for an HOT ;)

I prefer Sweet Lolita >w< Or Classic.

But Gothic is pretty awesome. Depending on how it’s executed it can be scary or beautiful. Overall, I would vote Gothic Lolita as a hot fashion… Haha, I wonder how people in the U.S. would react to it.

Just imagine someone in a Gothic Lolita getup walking down the lane in the US or anywhere in the world where it’s not common. I’ll probably freak out or something.
