Title : Kiba

Genre : Adventure, fantasy, shounen

Production : Studio Madhouse

Episodes : 51

Vintage : 2006

What drew my attention to this anime at first was the extremely good graphics, and then the storyline. I must say that it’s a classic fantasy story where humans use spirits for their battles and everyone strives to be the strongest, but at the same time it is also unique in its genre.

Our main character Zed, is a 15 year old boy who hates the city he’s living in and desires freedom. After being chased by policemen through the city, he stumbles upon a portal and jumps in. He is transported to another world wherein which all the countries are in the verge of war. There, he finds out that he is a Shard-caster and tries to learn more about the spirits and their powers. A shard is a marble-like ball that holds the powers of a certain spirit. When a human comes to posses a shard, he becomes a shard-caster and could then use the powers of the Spirit to fight.

The anime was shown in Japan by TV Tokyo in April 2006, under the direction of Koujina Hiroshi. Studio Madhouse is the official Japanese producer. The anime was said to be aired in the United States, but there has been no American production company announced s of yet.

The Japanese voice actor (seiyuu) lending his voice to the main character is Yoshino Hiroyuki. He has lent his voice to many anime characters in the past; some of his notable portrayals could be heard in Baccano! As Firo Prochainezo, Blood+ as Kai Miyagusuku, Claymore as Sid, Getbackers as Shuu, Gintama as Taka-chin, Inu Yasha as Ginta, Kekkaishi as Yoshimori Sumimura and many more.

What do you think? Is it the kind of story you would choose to see?
