The girl’s fluttering her long eyelashes when she stares into the mirror in front of her. She combs through her dyed brown hair with one hand; her fake nails are coloured in a bright pink, with pearls and diamonds on top of them. After the girl stands up, she grabs her pink handbag and her glittering cell phone, takes one last look into the mirror and leaves the room.
Himegyaru is a very famous style, especially known in Tokyo/Harajuku. The girls are dressing up like a princess: Their hair is baggy at the top, curled at the bottom and mostly dyed blonde or brown. Ribbons are not only adorning their hair but their dresses, too- Himegyaru’s are famous for their expensive, velvet and cute clothes which are embroidered with laces and pearls. But the jewellery and accessories are only bought at famous brand stores (e.g. Liz Lisa), cell phones and cameras are overdone decorated and high heels plus dresses should fit the figure perfectly- those are the musts for being a real Himegyaru. Himeka Shirosaki (image above) is one of the most famous Himegyaru’s; she is known for her cute and ‘up-to-date’ appearance and for her model contract with the magazine Ageha.
Himegyaru’s want to be cute and outstanding and maybe it’s only a rumour that they are doing this to seduce young Japanese men. What would you say about such a princess-like style? Cute or too extreme?

A bit of both, I’ll admit. As much as cute her appearance is, there is just something too perfect about her hair. It doesn’t look real and it doesn’t look fake o.O I’m confused~
I agree :]
Its very cute, but who could REALLY afford all those things? You’d have to start buying the clothing ahead before you become Himegyaru because you can only wear those expensive brands like Jesus Diamante and Liz Lisa. By that time you’d probably give up:/
I’m 13 years old and I go to school in Japan. And me and my friend are all Hime Gyaru. we do not do this to seduce man. but you my think i dont count because I’m 13 but my Hime Gyaru friends do not do that to seduce man. I sent this to them and the were very mad because the word Hime = princess and the word gyaru = gal. so we dress and at like princess so you might think were crazy but in japan we wear uniforms to school kimono to many events so uring the time we do have to express myself though clothing I dress how I want to be and I know it lame but that just use and you might think were extreme but we have very little time to wear what we want so we alway go to the extreme when we do have that time and as a japanese girl we love looking cute that just us.
Keiko
P.S. sorry for my spelling mistakes I use to japanese.
I agree with Keiko. I’m a himegyaru as well but I’ll be 16 in September. I live in California so it may be different here then in Japan but whatevs. Some people think I’m superficial because I own so many nice things but I’m not. I just like to look good. Is that a crime? I don’t think so. I’m just trying to express my personality. The girls at my school all dress the same even though it’s a public school with no required uniform. They wear Uggs, jeans, sport sweatshirts, denim skirts, and everything else from Hollister and Abercrombie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Abercrombie as much as the next girl (I hate Hollister), but I think it’s better to be yourself. Plus I always get compliments and date invitations(<– I decline these :]) So yes, Himegyaru MAY attract young handsome rich young men, But thats just because we’re so adorable. ;D
Himegyaru forever <3,
Zefie.
i read somewhere that they usually are rich to live this sort of lifestyle.
Somehow she seems to have either an allegic reaction or ist crying a lot. Those lacrymal sacks are quite eyecatching.
Then again her hairstyle is somewhat qute but those accesories are to much.
thats the point of the style.
I have to say I love Himegyaru. It’s perfectly cute and.. who doesn’t ever dream of being a princess. *.*
This is so fascinating! only japs can come up with something as original and creative as this! I’m curious to know if the girls wear dress themselves up like the way they all the time? Or is there a “down time”?
I’m a guy, and I find it cute. If acting and dressing like a princess means you have confidence, both to think of yourself that way and to face peoples’ opinions in public by dressing that way, then that’s cool.
I’m 15 and was born in Japan (now in Missouri), and I dress HimeGyaru. It’s a fun style, but a bit of work each morning. I have fun wearing it, and on weekends, I get time to wear it at it’s fullest extent. I have a boyfriend, so I don’t get asked on dates as much (if so, I decline them). To me, I just want to be as pretty as possible……in my eyes.
